Articles to Interest and Inspire:

  • Christian History Corner: JRR Tolkien & CS Lewis
One of the ongoing conversations inside CGDC is the role (or not) of allegory when it comes to christians making games. Here is a delightful look at how J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis approached the question in the realm of literature and how that brought us the two deeply spiritual worlds of Middle Earth and Narnia
  • Eurogamer: Gaming For God
A well done article that brings up the recent history of Christians in gaming. The author offers a fair and balanced article. The so much. ;)
  • Harvard Business Review: Meaning is The New Money
For a growing number of people, believers and non, the post-information age is driving them to seek deeper purpose in their work as opposed to just making more money. See how this broader trend is applicable to this matter of Christians working and thriving in the gaming industry.
  • Relevant: The Gospel of Video Games
For a home-schooled boy growing up in the church, there is nothing more thrilling than to enter the 6th grade. Not only are you once and for all leaving the trappings of childhood behind, you are, in fact, gaining access to that most mysterious and alluring social circle, the church youth group. For the first time, you find yourself spending time with the coolest of the cool: high-schoolers. If they say something is cool, you’d better believe it’s really cool.

Websites and Blogs:

These items are ongoing sites or blogs with news, articles or something of the sort:

Forums and Groups:

Here is an incomplete list of groups and web forums that have at least some connection to Christianity and Gaming. Keep in mind we're just providing links, we don't monitor these folks. :)

Music Resources:

I know how difficult it can be finding resources on small projects.
I also know how big of a difference good music can make in a game.
With that, I put together some of my unused music over the last year and have made a download available to everyone here on CGDC.
In it contains a variety of songs that can be used at no cost other than a credit.
I'm also offering small amounts of free service on the songs if you like one but want some edits. (Make it longer/looping/etc.)
I explain more in the pdf enclosed in the .zip file.
Hopefully you find it helpful.

Game Development and Training Resources:
Virtual Training Company - paid but some free examples
Graphics and Tools Resources: - open source advanced subdivision modeler - 3D Program - 3D Program

Certainly Terrence, and please feel free to suggest others. We're just now fleshing this page out and we know there are still a lot of other sites and links that we want to share.

I just started a new Christian Game-blogging site, trying to bring attention to the work that other Christians are doing to engage the world of games.

You don't have to put it up here, but it seems like it would fit in nicely. :]

In regards to the email I just got, here's a few things that might be worth adding:

So first of all, Owen Good at Kotaku did a whole feature on last year's conference, might be worth permalinking.
I see you already added Joshua Wise's site, The Cross and The Controller, might I also suggest adding Christ and Pop Culture? They have a video games section that is updated regularly with quality pieces, mainly from Drew Dixon, who also writes about video game for Relevant and Paste magazine.

Also, and I realize that I'm risking ostracizing myself through shameless self-promotion, but I got an article up on  that's a quick look at how Christians are engaging games.

Hi Jordan - Owen's CGDC article is posted on the News page, but that's perfect.

The others are well warranted. Tell me though, since I'm not familiar with Christ and Pop Culture, how would you categorize it? News? A Blog? Something else?

Comment by Jordan Ekeroth on January 11, 2012 at 1:05pm

I figured you had probably seen that. :]

I would say CaPC is probably best described as a blog, just one with several contributors. Drew writes his weekly column "When Games Matter," but the site also regularly runs features from other authors.

Cool. Thanks Jordan. Added both.

I am also responding to the email that was sent out. I'm managing a youth Christian movement called RE:NEW and here's a link to an article on gaming:

I've also started writing for It's a website with new articles and reviews nearly every day of the week. Would fit nicely under Websites and Blogs ;)

Way to go Jordan - you're doing the hard lifting or the whole category. Keep up the good work!
