"One thing I Ask, one thing I seek: to see the beauty of the Lord" - Psalm 27:4
In the history of the church, three virtues have been held up consistently and defended as deep reflections of God's nature:
• The true
• The good
• And the beautiful
These have served as a kind of trinity of virtues. And it's been said that there are only two things that can pierce the human soul - despair and beauty.
God has made a universe that is almost embarrassingly lovely. Bursting at the seams with color and contrast. And it wasn't that long ago when Christians were making much of the best art in history in basically every discipline; painting, architecture, music and sculpture - we call this time the Renaissance.
As Christian game developers shouldn't we be some of the most creative people in the industry as we tune our hearts to the amazingly creative heartbeat of the creator of the universe?
As part of the 2011 conference we hosted an art show that explores the wonderful history of Christian excellence in art through the last two millennia along with insightful stories on what the body of Christ was doing in the artistic realms as it rose from their hearts and souls.
The show is sponsored by CGDC in partnership with the art department at George Fox University and our hope is to create a show that might be an ever-growing, traveling display for churches, universities or art galleries, all exploring the historical role of faith in art.
