How do you talk to anybody on this site?

Comment by Jeff Spicer on November 19, 2012 at 4:10pm: When I get an email from somebody whose responded to the site, I respond back. Then I get a mail transcript error. I feel lucky to make a post (like right now) but have no idea if anybody can read it.

Comment by Jeff Spicer on November 19, 2012 at 4:13pm: Wow, then I see a link in my email that is supposed to allow me to respond to the email. But it takes me to a list of messages at the bottom of which I can send a message to myself.

Returning to the MyGroups page yields this: The group has vanished from my list! So I go through my browser history to get back to this page and make a few more posts.

On another note, I'm wondering, "what if i want to contact everyone whose joined?" Apparently they all need to be friended and accept, then a group started and everyone joins.

Comment by Lydia on November 21, 2012 at 12:01pm: Yeah, the CGDC site (which is a Ning site) can be confusing. The reason why is because its actually multiple communication styles housed on one site:

1.A facebook-like profile.

2. A Latest Activity section at the bottom of the welcome page that people can post their status to.

3. Groups, which have the comment wall AND "Discussions", which are like forum threads. So each group can function like its own mini-forum.

4. Within each profile is a whole "email"-style account, a comment wall, and blogging capability. All of these are only meant to function within the Ning system. The notification by outside email is just to let you know someone used the in-Ning private messaging system to contact you. Its confusing since it looks like

a real email, but you cannot reply to it directly from your outside email account.

It seems that the designers of Ning sites meant for people to communicate w/ each other in-system, like Facebook.

We do have the option to share a person's CGDC profile on facebook, which is a connection to something outside the Ning system.

I haven't even mentioned all the settings for everything. Including visibility of one's activity on here.
